Thinkwrap Software Delivery Methodology (SDM)

A variety of Software Development Methodologies have evolved over the years, each with its own recognized strengths and weaknesses. The heavy methodologies, such as Waterfall or literal interpretations of the Rational Unified Process (RUP) are very thorough but introduce a significant amount of overhead. On the other hand the Agile approaches such XP, Scrum or Feature Driven Development, feature much smaller footprints but place a heavy burden of participation on the sponsoring organization.

No single system development methodology is perfectly suitable for use in all situations. Through experience, we have come to understand that choosing the right methodology for a given situation necessitates consideration of many factors including:

  • Project scope, duration and technical orientation;
  • Organizational predisposition, culture, values and decision making;
  • Project team experience and capabilities;
  • Project drivers, risks and constraints;
  • Inter-dependencies with other internal and external initiatives.

Once a project compatible methodology has been chosen, further efficiencies can be gained by tailoring and adapting the selected methodology to the specifics of the project. This refinement responds to the unique circumstances of the project as well as to the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the methodology used. The approach also encourages the adoption of situation specific practices from other methodologies to form hybrid approaches that best suit the needs of the client and the challenge.

The Thinkwrap SDM provides tools for our project teams to reliably predict variance and prescribe adaptability within the methodology where it makes sense to do so. Thinknostic clients benefit from the employment of commercially best practices and the best fit approach to their environment - ultimately leading to cost savings and positive project results.
