The Client: Zarlink Semiconductor

Project: Supplier Portal - Single Sign-On

Technologies: Liferay, Tomcat, Oracle eBusines Suite, Oracle Identity Management
Services: Technical Architecture, Configuration
Domains: Security, Identity Management

The Opportunity

With a view to enabling structured electronic communications and better quality management between Zarlink and their Manufacturing Supplier, Zarlink elected to employ a Supplier / Manufacturer portal solution.

The Solution

Zarlink requested Thinknostic to first develop a "proof of concept" prototype of the portal to support funding approval. Following approval, Thinknostic was asked to design, develop, and implement the portal solution..

Thinknostic evaluated potential technologies as a foundation for the portal solution. The Thinknostic team selected Liferay, on Tomcat with MySQL. Following selection of the technology platform, a functional prototype was developed to support the on-going project approval cycle. The prototype addressed a host of integration challenges spanning LDAP, SMTP, and Supplier/Manufacturer source data systems. The project was subsequently approved.

Thinknostic was then responsible / accountable for the design and development of the database and corresponding application to support the business requirement. The application required the design and development of two custom portlets for Liferay. On completion of the project, Thinknostic was responsible for effective knowledge transfer to Zarlink IT staff. Thinknostic managed the project from start to finish on a fixed price / outsourced arrangement.

The Benefits

The system implemented by Thinknostic supports information sharing and real time status across all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Company Profile

Zarlink is a semiconductor solutions company that drives the capabilities of voice, enterprise, broadband and wireless communications. At the time, the manufacturing of Zarlink's wafer technology was outsourced to 3rd party firms specializaing in this area. The quality management processes surrounding the outsourced manufacturing activities required on-going communication of test plans, results, exceptions, etc.
