The Opportunity
The Virtual Trade Commissioner (VTC) web portal provides a personalized portal servicing trade commissioners and DFAIT customers and partners around the world. The solution includes a personalized web portal displaying content targeted to the individual company's interests and activities. It features a web based content management tool incorporating workflow management technology.
The Solution
The VTC solution is built using Java on the Art Technology Group (ATG) Dynamo platform supplemented with an Oracle 9i database.
Thinknostic team members provided technical architecture, analysis, design, software development, testing, documentation and on-going support through the application development cycle.
The Benefits
The VTC web portal provides functionality in the form of a web solution that:
- Enables DFAIT to provide highly tailored and personalized, individualized online services to Canadian business exporters, trade commissioners, and foreign business contacts;
- Allows internal users to publish an extensive array of content through a Content Management system, following a defined workflow process;
- Integrates the legacy InfoExport web site in the new VTC portal architecture;
- Integrates the VTC portal with various internal and external databases, data sources, third party syndicated content providers and DFAIT legacy systems;
- Allows Canadian clients, foreign contacts and partner-clients to register on-line to gain access to the portal;
- Provides secure storage and access rules for sensitive corporate information about registered companies; and
- Provides personalized Web based interface allowing registered clients an array of services.
